The Butcher Boy

In More Street where I did dwell
A butcher boy I loved right well
He courted me my life away
And now with me he will not stay

I wish, I wish, I wish in vain
I wish I was a maid again
But a maid again I’ll never be
Till cherries grow on an apple tree

I wish my baby it was born
And smiling on its daddy’s knee
And me poor girl to be dead and gone
With the long green grass growing over me

He went upstairs and the door he broke
He found her hanging by a rope
He took his knife and he cut her down
And in her pocket these words he found

”Oh, make my grave large, wide and deep
Put a marble stone at my head and feet
And in the middle a turtle dove
So the world may know I died for love”

There's Something On My Side

It took a lot to sell my soul
The same thing happened yesterday
I paid my price, then felt alive
But no pulse is within my veins

Never will I lie and say I'm still alive
Come what may to me, there's something on my side

I'm left with heart, 'cause inside me's gone
Compulsion drives me anyway
I play my part and my part is large
Makes me stronger every day

Never will I lie and say I'm still alive
Come what may to me, there's something on my side

One year and it ain't so bad
I'm trying to see things clearly
The clearer it gets, the more I'm confused
I'm thinking more about blindness
Thinking hard about blindness
Thinking purely of blindness

There's something on my side
There's something on my side
There's something on my side
There's something on my side...

I Need You

I know there's something in your eyes,
I know there's something in your smile,
makes me feel like losing all my thoughts tonight,
Baby. Everyday I read between the lines,
every night I'm searching for your signs.
You belong to heaven's gate,
angel of hope…

I need you, you're always on my mind.
That's all you left behind, my love will last
eternally…

I need you, like no one else before
You're all that I adore, my love will last
eternally, I need you…

So many things I failed to do…
One thousand miles I'd run for you,
you're still the only one I ever need, Baby!
Everyday I read between the lines,
every night I'm waiting for your signs.
You belong to heaven's gate,
angel of hope…

I need you, you're always on my mind.
That's all you left behind, my love will last
eternally…

I need you, like no one else before
You're all that I adore, my love will last
eternally, I need you…

…between the lines,
every night I'm searching for your signs.
You belong to heaven's gate,
angel of hope…

I need you, you're always on my mind.
That's all you left behind, my love will last
eternally…

I need you, like no one else before
You're all that I adore, my love will last
eternally, I need you…

Oh I need you, like no one else before…

So many things I failed to do…
One thousand miles I'd run for you,
you're still the only one I ever need, Baby!
Everyday I read between the lines,
every night I'm waiting for your signs.
You belong to heaven's gate,
angel of hope…

I need you, you're always on my mind.
That's all you left behind, my love will last
eternally.

I need you, like no one else before
You're all that I adore, my love will last
eternally, I need you…

I need you, you're always on my mind.
That's all you left behind, my love will last
eternally.

I need you, like no one else before
You're all that I adore, my love will last
eternally.

I need you, you're always on my mind.
That's all you left behind, my love will last
eternally.

I need you, like no one else before
You're all that I adore, my love will last
eternally, I need you…

Mirage

I do not know if ever it existed -
That lost world floating dimly on Time's stream -
And yet I see it often, violet-misted,
And shimmering at the back of some vague dream.
There were strange towers and curious lapping rivers,
Labyrinths of wonder, and low vaults of light,
And bough-crossed skies of flame, like that which quivers
Wistfully just before a winter's night.

Great moors led off to sedgy shores unpeopled,
Where vast birds wheeled, while on a windswept hill
There was a village, ancient and white-steepled,
With evening chimes for which I listen still.
I do not know what land it is - or dare
Ask when or why I was, or will be, there.
